The June
issue of “Kamq +” newspaper
is published. Here you can read interesting articles about
the Advocacy initiatives being implemented in Syunik
and Vayots Dzor regions,
as well as post election observations.
In
the first week of June GUM NGO Audio – Video
Center announced a one month English
language one month training for
Goris area
school children /5-6th form/. The trainings will
start in the second week of July after
the collection of applications.
On June 22 GUM NGO delivered new training for Syunik
and Vayots Dzor NGOs. In the past GUM was delived “Strategic planning” training
by contractor, but now the NGO has its own
module and trainers (A. Torozyan, A. Avetisyan) for
that training.
This time the
two day training was different from the previous
one with its new style and number of participants:
this time minimum 3 participants
from each NGO. During the training the participants
drafted the Strategic plans of their NGOs and the trainers
ensured that they
will prepare the final strategic plans of their
organizations.
The
prices of computer trainings of GUM NGO Internet center
has decreased during summer vacations. Only school children
and students
can benefit from those discounts. The Center
gives opportunities to its clients to effectively organize
their summer vacations
On June 21 GUM NGO celebrated its 2nd year as an Intermediate Service
Organization. The staff members received lots of congratulations
from different NGOs.
On
June 21, the representatives from OBSE Yerevan
Office and Syunik representation met with
seven organizations’ representatives
implementing gender and civil society projects
in Goris area. The goal of the meeting was
to form collaboration through needs
assessment
and inter - cognitive presentations.
On June 14, the Director of Peace Corps Armenia office (Lee Lacy)
visited Goris. The goal of her business trip was to become informed
about the activities of Peace Corps Volunteers in the area. She
had meeting with GUM NGO President, A. Torozyan. A. Torozyan presented
the 5 year experience of working with PC volunteers.
On
May 25, a workshop was organized at GUM NGO office.
Participants were of CASP Election Project’s
8 grantees of Syunik and Vayots Dzor regions; GUM
NGO staff members; and CASP Election
Project Coordinator.
On May 18 English Teachers Conference was held at GUM NGO office.
Hasmik Mikaelyan from US Embassy (Educational and Cultural project
officer), English teachers from Goris, Kapan, Sisian area schools
participated in the conference. The conference was organized
by the initiative of Patricia Estep, (English language specialist,
working with Syunik region English teachers for 6 months at NIE
Syunik branch) with the cooperation of GUM NGO and Syunik branch
of National Institute of Education. The Conference was held 3
different sessions. One of the main objective of the conference
was the formation of Regional Association of Syunik English Teachers.
At the result of long discussions Margarita Abgaryan was selected
as the President of the Association. The Association will have
branches in Goris, Kapan and Sisian cities.
On
April 17 Kyla Springer, PR Specialist of
Counterpart Washington office, had a business
trip to Syunik and Vayots Dzor regions.
The goal of Kyla’s visit was to be informed about the NGOs’ Advocacy
initiatives and collect materials for success stories for web
page. She visited the Project beneficiaries: the disabled people
of “Social psychological and research center” NGO,
the kindergarten children of “Vayk Greens” NGO, the
teenagers of “Goris women house” NGO

On
April 17 GUM NGO Internet center started
the 7day computer trainings for Goris area
teachers within the framework of “Computer
skills development” project.
On
April 13-15 “The role of NGO in the public policy development
process” Conference was organized at American University
of Armenia. The Conference was organized by Counterpart International
by the financial support of USAID and AUA. “Goris Teachers
Union” NGO; “NGO Center” Vanadzor
Branch and Civic Development and Partnership
Foundation supported the organization
of the Conference.
The local NGO were implementing Advocacy Initiatives within the
framework of CASP, the representatives from different International
organizations and government were participating in the conference.
During the 4 days, the conference sessions
were passing together with the exhibition.
The topics
of the sessions were the following:
NGO - Government, NGO – Business, NGO – Citizen / Society
